The IMPEDE embolization plug is indicated to obstruct or reduce the blood flow rate in the peripheral vasculature.

It consists of an anchoring coil and a biodegradable plug made of shape-memory polymer (SMP) with a marker in the proximal region. SMP is formulated to expand from its crimped shape in the catheter when positioned in a blood vessel. The design of the scaffold made of expanded polymer offers an ideal structure for the formation of clots and permits vascular occlusion with low radial force and high conformability of the vessel, even in tortuous vessels.

The anchoring coil enables it to be implanted in arteries and veins and reduces the risk of migration of the device to a minimum.
